In music, we have been learning about how sound is produced on different types of instruments. Have you ever played a Gasong Drum?
Last week Darcy brought this intriguing instrument in to show us how it’s done. Can you guess what it is made out of?
Here’s a clue: Something that helps with the cooking, and often runs out just when you have invited friends over for a barbeque.
Different size ‘tongues’ have been carved into the recycled metal to create different pitched notes. Beaters with a rubber head (like a bouncy ball) are used to strike the instrument. It makes layers of soothing and calm sounds that resonate, harmonize and bounce around.
Thanks Darcy for sharing it with us.
(This instrument has been professionally made. Don’t try this at home.)
